What are G driving lessons?
The G road test officially called the G2 exit test, is the second and final step in Ontario’s graduated licensing system. Pass it, and every G2 restriction disappears: no more curfews, no more passenger limits, full driving privileges on every road in the province.
Unlike the G2 test, the G test isn’t about basic car control anymore. It’s built around highway and expressway driving: merging, lane changes at speed, exit ramps, and holding your own in fast-moving business-area traffic. MTO has also confirmed that, until further notice, the G test does not re-test parallel parking, roadside stops, 3-point turns, or residential-street driving, those are already covered at the G2 stage. Most driving schools haven’t updated their sites to reflect this.

FAQ
What's the difference between the G2 test and the G test?
The G2 road test (your G1 exit test) checks basic skills — parking, turns, stopping, intersections. The G road test (your G2 exit test) is the final test, and currently focuses on highway and expressway driving, business-area driving, and advanced turns. MTO has, until further notice, removed parallel parking, roadside stops, 3-point turns, and residential-street driving from the G test since those are already assessed at the G2 stage.
How long do I have to wait before I can book my G road test?
You need to hold your G2 licence for 12 months. Unlike the G1-to-G2 wait, a driving course doesn’t shorten this one — it’s a fixed 12 months no matter what.
Do I need to take a BDE course for G driving lessons?
No. The Beginner Driver Education course only affects your G1-to-G2 wait time. For the G test, you can book private lessons directly with no course requirement.
What's the "Declaration of Highway Driving Experience"?
Before your G test, you’ll need to confirm you’ve driven on a highway with an 80 km/h+ speed limit at least 5 times in the 3 months prior. If you can’t confirm this, the examiner cancels your test as “out of order” and you lose 50% of your fee — we make sure you’ve logged that experience well before test day.
How much does the G road test cost?
$91.25 per attempt, set by the Ministry of Transportation. Unlike the G2 test, there’s no reduced retake fee — it’s the same cost every time.
Can I use my own car for the G road test?
Lessons are always in our training vehicle. For the road test itself, you can use your own car, a family member’s, or a friend’s. If you don’t have access to one, ask about our G Test-Day Package.
Which areas do you offer G driving lessons in?
Ajax, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, and Bowmanville. Instructors come to you, and lessons are built around the highway routes and DriveTest centre you’ll be tested at.
